This blog is about the story of my family here in America. We arrived in the 1630s as Puritans, and became the common folk of the New World.

Dogs doing their duty at my grandma's house

My grandmother, who was born in 1901, said a lot of things that confused me as a kid. And perhaps the most confusing to me was her use of the phrase *dog doing its duty*. Well, that's how I heard it. Of course, she was saying, *doody*. Spell-check doesn't even give a suggestion for that. I wonder if anyone still says, *doody*?

I have always been fascinated with history, and that includes what people call things. I visit the *Urban Dictionary* site often to do research. That would have come in handy when I was a kid!
