This blog is about the story of my family here in America. We arrived in the 1630s as Puritans, and became the common folk of the New World.

A Christian Church - come as you are

My ancestors, the Puritans, would have been very comfortable in a place like The Living Faith Cathedral in Peoria, Arizona, which is right next door to the Pizza Hut. And although the term "Cathedral" seems a bit much for a church, this is exactly what a church meant to them.

If it seems absolutely ridiculous to you to have a church in a strip mall like this, well, it's because many of the things that the Puritans, and the Protestants, stood for, have slipped away in the past 300 years.

A church is wherever two or more of us are gathered in His name. Yes, all Christians know that. We could meet on a beach and I could scrawl a simple picture of a fish in the sand, and even after the tide had washed it away, the church would remain.

Somewhere along the line, Christian churches became something that my ancestors would have seen more as temples. They became elaborate structures, with graven images, and decidedly unChristian ceremonies. A place of money changers, of human arrogance and pride. Towers of Babel.

So, if you ever wondered whatever happened to the Puritans, they are alive and well. And gathering today in places like this. Come as you are.
