What the Renaissance was
I like to think of the Renaissance as if people were discovering things that had been lost in old attics. As my ancestors started traveling around in the 14th century, they rediscovered the wonders of the ancient world. And as they saw the art and architecture of ancient Rome, it must have been fabulous. Sure, there were people in positions of authority who didn't want this to happen, and would cut off your head for even looking at this stuff, but what's a little inconvenience?
I would like to think that we are still living in a time of Renaissance, in a world of discovery, and re-discovery. Once my ancestors unearthed these treasures of art, literature, and architecture, the western world flowered into the world we know today. It's hard to imagine that it had been lost for so long, but the important thing is that it was found.
