This blog is about the story of my family here in America. We arrived in the 1630s as Puritans, and became the common folk of the New World.

The alliance between France and the United States

The moment that The United States of America declared its independence from England, in 1776, it gained a very strong ally, France. France had been at war with England for many years, and suddenly a country that had been an enemy to the British colonials became an ally to the United States revolutionaries.

And the French played a large part in helping the United States to win its independence from England, aided most notably by the French General LaFayette, who served with General George Washington.

Many years later, the United States got to return the favor when they arrived in France to help fight World War I. At that time, we said, "Lafayette, we are here!", a reference to the help that General Lafayette gave us during the revolutionary war. This alliance with France continued through World War II, and continues to this day.

Vive la France!
